Why Join Us?On-the-job training – We'll provide the training you need to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.Career growth – Gain valuable skills in equipment operation, recycling, and waste management.Make an impact – Play a key role in maintaining Summit County's commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management.Work in a team-oriented environment with a positive missionPrimary Responsibilities:Operate on a variety of heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, compactors, forklifts, and other equipment used to move and process materials on site.Load and feed processing equipment, manage stockpiles, and keep material flowing through the landfill, recycling, and composting areas.Assist with sorting landfill trash, recyclables, and household hazardous waste collections at the SCRAP facility, and perform additional manual tasks as needed to support landfill and recycling operationsTransport and haul landfill or recycled materials on site and at drop-off centers and maintain locations to ensure efficiency and safety for all Summit County Residents.Perform daily equipment checks, fueling, greasing, and basic maintenance before and after operation.Keep work areas clean, control litter, and maintain safe traffic flow around equipment and customers, working closely with leads and other operators to manage daily workloads and changing site conditions.Work outdoors year-round in a fast-paced environment that includes dust, noise, weather, and uneven terrain.Coordinate with coworkers using clear, professional radio communication and provide courteous customer service when assisting customers and directing them to appropriate disposal areas.Typical QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDMust be 21 years of ageValid Colorado Driver License and Clear Motor Vehicle Records in the State of Colorado.Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements throughout employment.LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:Commercial Driver's license (CDL) Class A or B must be obtained and maintained throughout employmentEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND FORMAL TRAINING:This posting will be used to fill two vacancies at either the Heavy Equipment Operator or Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee level, depending on the qualifications of the candidates selected.Heavy Equipment Operator: $28.00-$30.82Two to three (2–3) years of professional heavy equipment operating experiencePossession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or BOR Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee: $25.18-$27.70One to two (1–2) years of relevant education, training, and/or experience related to heavy equipment operationMust be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License learner's permit within 30 days of hire and obtain a Class B commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.All positions are subject to a pre-employment criminal background check, and requires proof of citizenship or authorization for employment in the U.S.Equal Opportunity EmployerWe offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
