Job Description

The Senior Agile Coach will support Agile maturity and transformation initiatives within a complex technology organization. The role will assess team maturity, develop tailored coaching strategies, and guide teams in strengthening Agile practices and capabilities across varying levels of experience.

The Agile Coach will work closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Program Managers, and Agile leadership to help teams deliver value effectively, establish sustainable Agile practices, and align with established organizational Agile frameworks and standards.

The successful candidate must have direct experience supporting Agile transformations in either federal or private-sector environments .

Key Responsibilities Team Maturity & Coaching

• Assess Agile maturity and capabilities across teams with varying levels of experience.
• Develop and implement tailored Agile coaching plans based on individual team needs.
• Guide teams through progressive Agile capability development.
• Establish sustainable Agile practices and help teams improve their overall performance.
• Track and demonstrate measurable improvements in Agile maturity and team effectiveness.
• Adapt coaching approaches based on team dynamics, organizational context, and maturity level.

Agile Practice Excellence

• Coach teams on Scrum, Scrumban, and Kanban practices.
• Guide teams in effectively applying Agile events, artifacts, roles, and principles.
• Help teams understand and apply Agile principles rather than following processes mechanically.
• Promote continuous improvement and help teams establish sustainable improvement practices.
• Support teams in aligning their Agile practices with organizational playbooks, standards, and frameworks.
• Introduce relevant industry best practices while maintaining alignment with organizational requirements.

Change Management & Transformation

• Help teams navigate resistance to Agile adoption and organizational change.
• Build team engagement and buy-in for new ways of working.
• Identify and address mindset, cultural, and organizational barriers to Agile transformation.
• Coach teams and stakeholders through changes in processes, behaviors, and delivery practices.
• Support broader Agile transformation and maturity initiatives across the organization.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Program Managers, and Agile leadership .
• Work under the guidance and direction of the Agile Program Manager.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and recommendations to Agile practitioners and delivery teams.
• Communicate team maturity, progress, challenges, and improvement opportunities to relevant stakeholders.
• Support alignment between team-level Agile practices and broader organizational transformation objectives.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience coaching Agile teams across various maturity levels within complex organizations.
• Proven experience assessing team capabilities and developing effective Agile coaching strategies.
• Demonstrated success driving measurable improvements in:

  • Delivery effectiveness

• Demonstrated ability to navigate organizational resistance and adapt coaching approaches to different team environments.
• Direct experience supporting Agile transformations in either the federal government or private sector .
• Experience working within established Agile playbooks, frameworks, standards, and organizational processes.
• Experience introducing and applying industry Agile best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Jira for work management.
• Strong coaching, facilitation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Required Certification

At least one relevant Agile certification is required, such as:

• ICAgile Certified Professional – Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC)
• Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)
• SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC)
• Equivalent recognized Agile coaching certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in government or highly regulated industries .
• Experience coaching teams across multiple Agile maturity levels.
• Experience with large-scale Agile transformations.
• Strong understanding of Scrum, Scrumban, and Kanban.
• Experience working with enterprise Agile frameworks and organizational transformation programs.
• Strong ability to coach teams through cultural and behavioral change.
