Senior Mechanical Sustaining Engineer The Senior Mechanical Sustaining Engineer provides technical and project leadership for Packsize’s value engineering efforts. This role helps lead a small team of engineers while remaining hands‑on in value engineering work. The position is accountable for planning, prioritizing, and delivering measurable cost‑reduction initiatives across machine platforms. Responsibilities Lead and prioritize value engineering initiatives across multiple machine platforms. Analyze machine architectures for standardization, simplification, and reuse opportunities. Drive modularity and platform thinking across mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems. Provide technical leadership and direction to other engineers. Own project planning, execution, and reporting of cost‑reduction initiatives. Perform system‑level design trade studies balancing cost, performance, reliability, and serviceability. Partner cross‑functionally with Procurement, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Supply Chain. Review and approve engineering changes and ensure proper ECO/ECN execution. Mentor engineers in design‑to‑cost, DFM/DFA, and value engineering methodologies. Qualifications BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and sustaining engineering. Demonstrated leadership experience in technical or project‑based roles. Proven track record of delivering measurable BOM and lifecycle cost reductions. Strong project management and cross‑functional coordination skills. Expert‑level proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering change processes. Nice to have: Exposure to electrical systems, sensors, PLCs, and general industrial controls. Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers. Background in modular product platforms or configurable machine systems. Hands‑on prototyping and machine build experience. Benefits & Travel Up to 15% travel as needed.
