Night Custodian

Overview August 22, 2025 School City of East Chicago 2025-2026 School Year POSITION: Custodian HOURS & TIME: Evenings (2:00pm - 10:00pm) SCHOOL: Carrie Gosch Early Learning Center SALARY: In accordance with current salary schedule. Responsibilities Includes the following plus any other duties that may be required by the employer and as per the Special Bulletin designated for the position: Laundry duties as needed Shampoos carpeting when assigned Dry mops floors in rooms and hallways Clean and vacuums carpeting in rooms Empties wastebaskets and other refuse containers and disposes of contents in appropriate manner Stocks machines and/or paper dispensers, replaces soap when needed Scrubs and disinfects shower areas and locker rooms as assigned Cleans seating and work surfaces as needed Cleans glass surfaces, drinking fountains, sinks, bowls, etc., as assigned Cleans snow, ice and debris from walkways and building entryways when assigned Cleans and sanitizes restroom areas as assigned (typically every ½ hour) Moves furniture and/or equipment when assigned Moves and relocates supplies within building when assigned Closes and secures all windows and doors in assigned area Keep custodial storage areas clean, neat, and free from clutter and combustible materials Submits requests for supplies to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice Keeps issued equipment and supplies clean, neat and in useable working conditions Reports damaged, defective, or otherwise unusable equipment to appropriate supervisor in accordance with established practice Uses cleaning materials and equipment in accordance with safety standards Cleans assigned areas in accordance with procedures set forth in cleaning guides Maintains current MSDS knowledge of all cleaning materials in use Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with MSDS standards and school corporation policies and guidelines Supervisory Duties This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Language Skills Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively with building’s custodial staff, all building staff and administrators. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, climb, use hands to finger, feel, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently life and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
