Transmission Project Manager

Job Description WSP is seeking a Transmission Project Manager for our Power & Energy Program Management Team. This position will be based in St. Louis, MO and requires periodic travel to WSP and/or client offices for face‑to‑face meetings. Responsibilities The successful candidate will manage the technical, scheduling, quality, and financial aspects of Power and Energy Transmission Line and Substation projects. The role includes proposal development, planning, execution, reporting, and close‑out, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and client expectations. Opportunity This role leads the development, execution, control, and monitoring of Power Delivery projects—electric transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure—across the full project lifecycle. The incumbent is accountable for technical execution, schedules (CPM), financial performance, quality, safety, and client satisfaction on projects of moderate size, complexity, and regional scope. Your Impact Lead project planning activities including initiation, engineering coordination, procurement support, construction execution, commissioning, energization, and closeout. Manage project implementation covering scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, earned value, and assigned resources. Oversee cross‑functional teams of engineers, designers, controls, and support staff on transmission, distribution, and substation projects. Track hours, expenses, material and equipment costs, deliverables, compliance documents, and contractual requirements. Set technical, constructability, and design review levels, ensuring compliance with QA/QC programs and regulatory requirements. Support proposal development—scope definition, cost estimation, schedules, execution strategies, and resource plans. Maintain project controls tools such as Work Breakdown Structures, cost‑loaded schedules, forecasts, and risk registers. Coordinate with Project Accounting and Finance to monitor cost performance, cash flow, invoicing, accounts receivable, unbilled revenue, and completion time estimates. Provide regular reporting to clients and stakeholders, highlighting emerging risks, scope changes, schedule impacts, and budget variances. Escalate health and safety incidents, regulatory concerns, and significant project issues to leadership per governance requirements. Work with area, technical, and resource managers to address staffing, subcontracting, and specialty support needs. Participate in project reviews and recovery efforts, offering root cause analysis and corrective actions. Lead formal project closeout activities including financial closeout, documentation turnover, client acceptance, and lessons‑learned sessions. Exercise responsible decision‑making in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction/Project Management, Physical Sciences, or a related field within the Power & Energy market. 7‑10 years of post‑education experience, preferably in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility industry. Experience supporting or managing transmission, distribution, substation, or utility capital projects. Familiarity with financial analysis tools in a utility setting. Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies. Knowledge of project management processes and tools, including: Contract Management External and Internal Team Meeting Management Earned Value Management Change Management Risk Management Schedule Management (including CPM projects such as Primavera P6) Solid understanding of the Power Delivery project lifecycle from proposal through closeout. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for working with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams. Ability to guide junior project managers and technical staff independently. Proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), and project management tools. Commitment to workplace health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
