Utility Inspection Technician

The Utility Inspection Technician (UIT) position inspects and conducts preventative maintenance condition assessments on sanitary sewer facilities and systems including manholes, wastewater collection lines, and other appurtenances. Condition assessments are conducted using acoustical assessment technology, Manhole Virtual Modeling (MVM) LIDAR technology and Inflow / Infiltration (I\&I) flow meters. The UIT is required to: Maintain a variety of records relating to inspection work activities. Identify equipment and material needs for each assigned project. Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment used. Perform required labor involved in the removal and replacement of manhole covers. Other Skills and Abilities OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of proper use of general construction tools and equipment. Knowledge of basic safe work practices related to construction activities. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, and methods and procedures used in utility maintenance construction and repair activities. Materials & Equipment Directly Used MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED : Motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup and utilities trucks; may include work around equipment such as combination jet/vac trucks, backhoes, loaders, locating equipment, tampers, compressors, hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, valve keys, mobile phones and radios, pipe cutters, pipes, manholes, valves, TV/video equipment, hydrants, fill and road materials. Mobile electronic devices and GPS equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Frequent hazardous exposure around traffic. Required Qualifications Excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills. 2+ years construction experience. Minimum of a high school diploma. A valid driver\'s license with a good driving record. A pre-employment drug test and random drug testing required. Willingness to travel to remote work locations, both in and out of state. Preferred Qualifications Experience with utility assessment technology, utility locating, and mapping technology. Time spent on construction sites, observation or involvement in methods of handling traffic. Familiarity with construction processes, installation methods, basic utility system means and methods. Ability to comprehend and navigate state and municipality requirements as they relate to projects.
