Job Summary

The role involves providing direct care to patients with behavioral health needs, adhering to the established policies and procedures of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts admission and shift assessments for assigned patients, focusing on behaviors, and completes these tasks accurately and within the designated time frame.
• Employs critical thinking and judgment to evaluate patient assessment data and informs physicians of any changes in condition.
• Engages in the creation, review, and assessment of multidisciplinary treatment plans in accordance with established policies.
• Records all nursing care provided and complies with nursing standards and organizational policies.
• Implements and documents physician orders consistently and accurately.
• Monitors patient safety and the environment within the unit.
• Acts as a clinical resource and oversees care provided by LPNs and technicians.
• Educates patients and their families based on assessed needs, documenting this education in the Electronic Health Record.
• Utilizes evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in nursing care, ensuring it meets the specific needs of patients based on age and clinical requirements.
• Demonstrates professional nursing standards as outlined in the professional practice model, guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
• Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education

Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program or possess equivalent educational qualifications for licensing.

Experience

No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly communicates verbally to share information.
• Frequent standing and walking are required.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
• Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry on a keyboard.
• Frequent visual acuity for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, including color differentiation.
• Regularly uses smell to identify odors.
• Frequently listens to receive oral communication and detect body sounds or alarms.
• Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs and moving patients.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
• Occasional driving may be required.
• Rarely involves crawling or running.

Required Professional Licenses and Certifications

Depending on the state of work location, the following certifications are required:

• Illinois: Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Missouri: Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State
• Oklahoma: Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN)
• Wisconsin: Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
