Simulation Technician (Technical Specialist) Job Description: Simulation Technician (Technical Specialist) MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 5 12‑month position SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $72,265.00 – $75,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Simulation Manager, the Health Simulation Technician supports the day‑to‑day operations of the simulation center. This role assists with the setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting of simulation equipment and technology, while working collaboratively with faculty and staff to deliver simulation‑based learning experiences. The Simulation Technician provides technical support for all simulation operations, including the preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, and related computer & multimedia peripherals. This is a Full‑Time, 12‑month position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare simulation spaces for teaching sessions, including computers and simulation software, audio/visual equipment, and clinical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, oxygen tanks, code cart, and defibrillator). Provide technical support for computer‑based multimedia systems and their components, including troubleshooting network connectivity, operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixers, digital/analog converters, monitors, projectors, and other equipment. Assist in the operation of simulation equipment, including anatomic models and task trainers, high fidelity simulators, and screen‑based, virtual reality simulators. Support the acquisition and installation of hardware and software systems/software/updates to maintain maximum operability of all simulation‑related equipment and functions. Support the use of digital media and web‑stream creation for educational and professional distribution, distribute content and archive data, and provide advanced troubleshooting. Assist with maintaining simulation equipment and supplies, including routine checks and reporting issues. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design, and implementation, by attending training and conferences. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other users of the Simulation Center and establish relationships amongst technical staff of similar simulation centers to foster professional growth and development. Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education. Participate in simulation activities and special projects as needed. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Simulation Manager Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Basic computer and technology skills (e.g., Windows systems, basic troubleshooting). Experience with healthcare equipment or environments. Experience with simulation platforms (e.g., Laerdal SimMan, SimMom, SimJr, SimBaby, SimNewB, SimPad, SimView, LLEAP preferred). Ability to learn new technologies and systems. Strong communication skills, with the ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non‑technical staff. Ability to set priorities on own initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and simulation needs in a fast‑paced environment. Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is preferred. Experience with scenario programming or simulation software. Experience with audio‑visual systems or multimedia technology (e.g., SimCapture). Working Conditions: There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor. An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. Lifts exceeding 50 pounds require a team lift technique. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks as well. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds. Able to manipulate instruments, supplies, and equipment with speed, dexterity, and exceptional hand‑eye coordination. Able to function in an environment with substantial latex and/or nitrile material exposure and without an allergic reaction.
