Robert half is currently recruiting for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a manufacturing environment in Duffield, Virginia. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening reporting processes, and providing analysis that supports sound business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of general accounting, cost accounting, and month-end activities, along with the ability to work effectively with operational and finance teams.
Responsibilities:
• Lead monthly close activities by preparing entries, reviewing account activity, and ensuring financial results are recorded accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain the general ledger through detailed account analysis, reconciliations, and timely resolution of discrepancies.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations while monitoring transactions for completeness and accuracy.
• Support manufacturing accounting by evaluating product costs, maintaining standard costing data, and reviewing cost-related trends.
• Analyze variances between actual and expected results and provide clear explanations to management.
• Oversee fixed asset and lease accounting processes, including record maintenance, depreciation, and compliance with accounting standards.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to review bill of materials information and confirm accurate cost structures within the system.
• Prepare financial reports and analytical summaries that help leadership assess performance and operational results.
• Utilize D365 and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to manage accounting data, improve reporting, and support process efficiency.
The position will require a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 3+ years of experience. The position is 100% onsite and will require some to live in the local Tri-Cities/Virginia or surrounding areas. • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting.• Strong working knowledge of month-end close, journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation.
• Experience with cost accounting concepts, including standard costing and manufacturing cost analysis.
• Familiarity with fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, and financial variance review.
• Proficiency with D365 or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to interpret bill of materials data and apply it to inventory or cost accounting processes.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, or a related field.
