Maine Township High School District 207 announces a vacancy for a Custodian- 12 month at Maine Township High School District 207 beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The School Custodian plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and community members. This position is responsible for general cleaning, basic maintenance, and building support tasks that contribute to efficient school operations. The custodian works collaboratively with the Director of Building and Grounds and school administration to ensure that all areas of the building are well-maintained, functional, and welcoming.

The custodian is responsible for general cleaning and sanitation, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and cleaning floors and other surfaces. They clean, dust, and wax furniture, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and other surfaces. They clean and service restrooms, ensuring proper sanitation and replenishment of supplies. They wash interior glass surfaces including windows, partitions, framed pictures, and doors. They clean exterior window and door glass as required. They collect, bag, and remove trash and recyclable materials from classrooms, offices, and building spaces. They clean, renovate, and refinish floor surfaces using appropriate materials and equipment. They properly operate and maintain floor-cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums. They replace incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs as needed. They move furniture, office items, classroom supplies, and other equipment as directed. They assist with opening and closing procedures, including locking and unlocking doors and windows. They turn off unnecessary lights and verify that areas are secure. They maintain building entrances by sweeping or shoveling snow and treating icy steps or walkways when needed.

The custodian must frequently stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, climb ladders, and carry up to 50 pounds. Tasks require manual dexterity, repetitive motions, and the ability to handle custodial equipment safely. This position may require working evenings, weekends, or during school breaks depending on building needs, special events, or emergency situations. Custodians must be flexible with assignments and schedules.

Salary and benefits include a 12-month position with a start date to be determined. The hourly rate is $22.53, approximately $48,894.55 per year (prorated first year based on start date). Benefits include IMRF pension, 10 days paid vacation, 17 paid holidays, 14 sick days, medical & dental insurance, and paid term life insurance policy equal to annual base salary. The position is non-exempt.
