Humane Education Associate

The Humane Education Associate works as part of a robust Humane Education department and is responsible for supporting Humane Education operations that strive to provide excellent outreach and education to youth in our community.The Humane Education Associate reports to the Humane Education Manager and is directly responsible for the facilitation of our humane education programming including camps, tours, workshops, birthdays, school programs, presentations, youth volunteer programs, and other outreach events.East Bay SPCA (EBSPCA) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit committed to the welfare of dogs and cats in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. You can find more information about EBSPCA on our website at Part-time; Non-exemptLocation: Oakland and DublinReports to: Humane Education ManagerBenefits: 50% employer paid medical, dental, and life insurance, 15 days starting PTO, 10 paid holidays, 401(k) with 3% contribution, discounted veterinary care benefits, AD&D, STD, and LTD.QualificationsHigh school graduation or equivalentAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferredExperience in delivering educational programming and supervising children (K – 12)Experience in providing programming to culturally and economically diverse groups, preferredExperience in facilitating education programs in an informal learning environment (animal shelter, zoo, museum, nature center), preferredFamiliarity with animal welfare issuesExperience with animal handling/care, preferredExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage time wellProficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsPre-employment background check, drug screening, TB test, and finger-printing clearance requiredA valid CA driver’s license, evidence of insurability and reliable transportationResponsibilitiesDeliver humane education programs (camps, tours, birthday parties, school programs, presentations, youth volunteer programs, etc.)Maintain an organized, structured classroom; assist with set up & clean up each dayProvide a safe, fun and engaging learning environment for participantsFollow East Bay SPCA policies and procedures when working with participants, staff, volunteers and shelter animalsAssist with program administrative tasksFacilitate animal meets with youth, following proper safety protocol and monitoring for safe interactionsRespond to electronic and telephone messages in a timely and appropriate mannerProvide care for onsite education animals, as neededProvide basic communications with clientsComply with applicable Mandated Reporter requirements per California Penal CodeWorking ConditionsSchedule:Friday through Monday work scheduleMust be available to adjust schedule to work special events or cover as neededWork is performed in an animal shelter environment at Oakland and Dublin facilitiesMust have reliable transportationMust be comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and agesAnimal contacts and related injuries, including bites and scratches, may occurNoise exposure varies and often includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizationsAnimal waste contact, smells and visual exposure are prevalentOccasional lifting up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation #J-18808-Ljbffr
