What we want Join the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and support the Cardiology service as a PRN Veterinary Teaching Sonographer! This role focuses on echocardiographic image acquisition and measurement, clinical workflow support, resident and house officer instruction, and research imaging. The position requires extensive small animal echocardiography experience, strong teaching skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within an academic specialty hospital environment. What you need to know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience. Schedule: PRN (as-needed) position with hours based on departmental needs. No guaranteed minimum number of hours. Location: Onsite in College Station, TX / May require travel. Qualifications Required Education Associate's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years of related experience Extensive experience in veterinary cardiac ultrasound, especially small animal echocardiography Experience with abdominal, large animal, and exotic animal ultrasound Experience with ultrasound equipment optimization and preset development. Experience supporting research projects or clinical trials requiring standardized imaging protocols Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent credential Strong communication skills and ability to provide constructive, learner-centered feedback Demonstrated teaching experience in ultrasound image acquisition and scanning skills Responsibilities Echocardiographic Examinations: Perform high-quality veterinary echocardiographic examinations for cardiology consults, outpatient studies, and clinical trials. Acquire and measure cardiac ultrasound images following established protocols. Ensure consistent, accurate, and clinically useful imaging output. Resident Instruction: Provide shoulder-to-shoulder echocardiography instruction for cardiology residents. Deliver hands‑on scanning guidance, real‑time feedback, and structured skill development. Support competency assessments using tools developed by the Cardiology Service. Cardiac Imaging Workflow Support: Support cardiac imaging workflow, including image acquisition, measurement, and coordination with cardiologists. Troubleshoot imaging issues and assist with workflow efficiency improvements. Ultrasound Equipment & Protocol Optimization: Optimize ultrasound equipment settings, presets, and protocols across multiple platforms. Support workflow efficiency, image quality improvement, and system standardization. Assist with equipment application support and troubleshooting. House Officer Education: Teach a basic echocardiography lecture series once or twice per year. Provide hands‑on scanning instruction and learner‑centered feedback. Support practical skill development for house officers across services. Competency Assessment Support: Assist with evaluating house officer imaging competency using established assessment tools. Maintain documentation and contribute to standardized evaluation processes. Research & Clinical Trial Imaging: Obtain protocol-driven ultrasound studies for clinical trials and research projects. Ensure consistency, repeatability and adherence to study requirements. Collaboration & Service Support: Collaborate with cardiologists, residents, interns, students, technicians, and hospital leadership. Support patient access, service continuity, and operational coordination. Why Texas A&M University?
