HVAC Technician – Commercial & Industrial

About the Role
Kelso Industries is seeking a seasoned HVAC technician who specializes in large-capacity chiller equipment and building automation to strengthen our commercial service division. This role takes on advanced troubleshooting, repair work, preventive maintenance, and performance tuning across a range of commercial and industrial sites. We're looking for someone with sharp technical judgment, an unwavering commitment to safety, and a reputation for reliable, high-quality work.

What You'll Do

• Repair and diagnose high-tonnage chillers in both air-cooled and water-cooled configurations, spanning centrifugal, screw, and scroll designs
• Program and troubleshoot DDC/BAS control platforms at an advanced skill level
• Lead start-up and commissioning of chillers and control systems, tuning for maximum operational efficiency
• Pinpoint and resolve issues spanning electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and related mechanical equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and controls diagrams
• Maintain thorough, up-to-date records of service calls, repairs, and follow-up recommendations
• Explain system status, findings, and recommended next steps to customers in clear, accessible terms
• Follow all safety protocols, EPA regulations, and company policy
• Mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians as opportunities arise

Qualifications

Required

• Current TDLR HVAC Journeyman License (Texas)
• EPA 608 Universal Certification
• Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC experience with substantial hands-on work on heavy chiller equipment
• Proven track record with BAS/DDC control systems
• Solid electrical troubleshooting skills across low- and high-voltage applications
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Valid Texas driver's license in good standing
• Capable of lifting 50 lbs and working in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, and in confined spaces

Preferred

• Manufacturer-issued factory certifications or formal training on major chiller brands
• Direct experience with controls programming or system commissioning
• Background working in hospitals, industrial facilities, or large commercial properties
