Job Opportunity: Front Desk Receptionist – Seasonal
City of Independence, Iowa | Airport Department

The City of Independence is seeking a friendly, organized, and customer-focused individual to join our Airport Department as a Front Desk Receptionist . This position serves as the first point of contact for visitors, tenants, and the public at the Airport and provides a variety of clerical, administrative, and customer service duties to support smooth daily operations.

The Role

As a Front Desk Receptionist, you will greet visitors, answer phones, process emails and direct individuals to appropriate personnel. You will also enforce airport rules, handle transactions accurately, and perform light cleaning duties. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Answer phones and route calls; respond to routine inquiries about department operations.
• Act as the first point of contact for visitors; provide information or direct them to appropriate personnel.
• Schedule appointments and assist with facility rentals or requested services.
• Enforce airport facility rules and regulations regarding public health and safety.
• Perform basic math and accounting tasks related to collecting, recording, and handling money. Support invoicing, receipt tracking, and other financial duties.
• Assist in emergency situations calmly and appropriately as part of the facility’s emergency action plan.
• Perform cleaning duties for floors, counters, restrooms, and common areas.
• Attend required in-service training sessions.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math and handle cash accurately.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
• Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old.
• Experience: Prior experience working in office administration and/or customer service.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.; occasional bending, stooping, and standing.
• Work Style: Courteous, reliable, and able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Work Environment

This position works primarily indoors at the Airport. The role involves frequent interaction with the public and occasional light cleaning tasks. It is not considered safety-sensitive but requires attention to detail and adherence to facility policies.
