Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.
This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers.
Dispensing and administering medications is part of the responsibilities.
The RN assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients.
Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care of inmates/residents.
Technical and clinical procedures are performed within the scope of education and licensure.
Appropriate nursing skills are applied in the treatment of inmates/residents.
The RN attends sick calls with physicians to see inmates/residents.
They prepare lists of inmates/residents to be examined and prepare the examining room and equipment.
Operating pill calls, dispensing medication, and documentation as required by applicable policies are part of the role.
The RN calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders and handles emergencies.
They examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries.
Referrals to emergency rooms or other appropriate healthcare facilities are made based on their conditions.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and Licensed Independent Providers are notified for treatment orders.
The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.
Monitoring inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate is required.
The RN provides guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
A good working relationship with facility staff and nursing staff is maintained.
Established corporate and facility policies are utilized in decision-making, using sound independent judgment.
Regular evaluations of the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication are conducted.
Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained.
The RN assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.
They closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary is conducted as directed.
Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is required.
The RN observes and records inmate/resident behavior.
Inspection of the medical unit for potential contraband is performed, with secure storage or disposal of supplies and equipment.
Health counseling and education are provided on an individual or group basis as required.
The RN assists in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar.
Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures is necessary.
The RN reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary.
Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved medical services may be applicable.
The RN prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required, taking appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
