Mental Health Worker - Children & Adolescents
This role offers the opportunity to join a strong, clinically based multidisciplinary team providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to children, adolescents, and their families in a supportive outpatient and partial hospitalization setting. The position focuses on direct patient care for youth ages 6 through 17 and involves building therapeutic relationships, facilitating psychoeducational and life-skills groups, coordinating with clients, guardians, and schools, supporting crisis intervention, and contributing to comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment planning. This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate, creative, and clinically minded professional who is passionate about helping children and adolescents develop healthy coping skills and achieve improved mental health outcomes.
A typical day for a Mental Health Social Work Professional may include:- Providing direct patient care and supportive clinical services to children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 in an outpatient and partial hospitalization mental health setting
- Establishing and maintaining supportive, therapeutic relationships with clients while creating a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed treatment environment
- Managing telephone communication with clients, parents, guardians, schools, and other involved parties, including initial contacts, case management, treatment updates, and coordination of care
- Functioning as a group leader for assigned psychoeducation and life-skills groups designed to strengthen coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and other age-appropriate skills
- Contributing to comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment plans in collaboration with clinicians and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team
- Monitoring client progress and communicating relevant clinical, behavioral, and psychosocial information to the treatment team
- Completing accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with program policies, procedures, and documentation standards
- Participating in crisis intervention and crisis management activities in accordance with established program policies and procedures
- Recognizing changes in client presentation, behavior, emotional functioning, or safety needs and communicating concerns promptly to the appropriate members of the treatment team
- Supporting clients and families through behavioral health challenges by utilizing compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed approaches
- Coordinating with schools, guardians, and other involved systems to support continuity of care and address barriers affecting the client's treatment and functioning
- Participating in client transportation as assigned and in consultation with the treatment team while following applicable program policies and safety procedures
- Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to promote consistent treatment approaches, effective communication, client engagement, and positive clinical outcomes
- Maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and appropriate communication when working with children, adolescents, families, schools, and other community partners

- You enjoy working in a collaborative, clinically based multidisciplinary environment
- You value trauma-informed care and understand the importance of creating safe and supportive treatment environments for young people and their families
- You have strong interpersonal communication skills and can establish positive relationships with children, adolescents, parents, guardians, and other professionals
- You are comfortable facilitating groups and helping youth develop practical coping, emotional regulation, communication, and life skills
- You can communicate effectively by telephone with clients, guardians, schools, and members of the treatment team
- You are organized and detail-oriented when completing clinical documentation, managing case-related communication, and maintaining accurate EMR records
- You are able to remain calm, compassionate, and professional when responding to behavioral or mental health crises
- You work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team and are willing to contribute to treatment planning and clinical decision-making
- You are creative, flexible, and able to adapt your approach to meet the developmental and individual needs of children and adolescents
- You understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and client safety in a behavioral health setting
- You are comfortable working with families and schools as part of a coordinated approach to treatment and support
You have earned a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field and have at least one year of experience working with children ages 6-17 in a structured mental health setting . Candidates must possess an active New Jersey driver's license without restrictions and demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience providing direct care, facilitating groups, supporting crisis intervention, coordinating with families and schools, and working within a multidisciplinary behavioral health environment is highly valued.
