ED, Senior Wealth Management Litigation Attorney

Position Responsibilities Morgan Stanley is seeking a senior litigation attorney to handle a docket of arbitrations, civil litigations and regulatory enforcement investigations and inquiries for its Wealth Management business. The role includes managing a large volume of diverse matters, including arbitrations before FINRA Dispute Resolution; civil litigations in state and federal courts; and regulatory enforcement matters conducted by the SEC, FINRA, DOJ and state regulators. The attorney will also direct and supervise outside counsel for selected matters, and perform administrative duties related to case management and reporting. What You’ll Do Litigate disputes in arbitration and state and federal courts, including strategy, investigation, legal research, drafting and arguing motions, discovery management, witness preparation, and conducting arbitrations. Handle SEC, FINRA, DOJ and state regulatory investigations and enforcement matters, including strategy, case investigation, interviewing and preparing witnesses, drafting written responses, and interacting with regulators. Represent Morgan Stanley and its employees in FINRA arbitrations, court proceedings, mediations, and regulatory matters. Analyze and evaluate litigation and regulatory risks and recommend solutions to manage and minimize those risks. Provide legal advice on ad‑hoc matters to internal business clients, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Technology and other departments. Analyze and elevate operational risks identified through litigation and regulatory investigations. Collaborate cross‑functionally with colleagues in Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Technology and other departments. Manage and partner with outside counsel on select litigation matters. Conduct internal and external regulatory reporting. What You Bring Member of the California Bar. 10+ years of litigation experience, preferably at a top‑tier law firm, government, regulatory enforcement or in‑house counsel. Significant experience in trials, arbitrations, law and motion hearings, other hearings and/or mediations. Experience with regulatory investigations/enforcement and/or internal investigations. Ability to work independently and manage a large volume of diverse matters with minimal support. Skilled and persuasive negotiator. Strong oral and written advocacy skills. Strategic, analytical thinker and creative problem‑solver. Tenacious and determined. Strong interpersonal skills, working effectively with clients, colleagues, regulators and counsel at all levels. Detail‑oriented and organized with strong time and case management systems. Compensation Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $165,000 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment. Base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentive packages, and other benefits.
