Gastroenterology Physician
Sygnetics Healthcare
I would like to introduce you to Sygnetics Healthcare, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business specializing in placing healthcare providers into various specialty positions with recognized federal healthcare facilities across the United States.
We have an immediate need for a locum gastroenterologist to provide comprehensive gastroenterology care to veterans in a modern VA medical center. The role combines outpatient and bedside consultation, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, clinical documentation, and shared on-call coverage. Approximately 95% of the time is expected to involve direct patient care and 5% administrative and quality activities.
Primary Responsibilities
• Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients requiring gastroenterology services within granted VA privileges.
• Perform the core colonoscopy scope, including diagnostic exams, procedures via colostomy, biopsy, ablation, submucosal injection, and hot-forceps or snare removal of polyps or lesions.
• Perform the core EGD scope, including diagnostic EGD, biopsy, and hot-forceps or snare removal of polyps or lesions. Advanced procedures are performed only when clinically required and specifically privileged.
• Provide outpatient and bedside consultations; support completion of procedures within 30 days of consult when scheduled by the facility.
• Communicate test results, manage medications under VA policy, and provide coordinated discharge education and follow-up instructions.
• Document all care, encounters, and procedure reports promptly in VA systems, including CPRS and Provation, while maintaining HIPAA, privacy, and information-security compliance.
• Participate in staff meetings, QA/QI activities, patient-safety reporting, and education or supervision of health professions trainees as assigned and appropriately privileged.
Schedule and On-Call Expectations
• Clinic and procedure coverage generally runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; schedules are coordinated by the VA.
• Shared on-call rotation is generally equivalent to 1-in-4 and may include weeknights (4:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m.), weekends, and federal holidays, subject to staffing and clinical needs.
• While on call, carry the VA-provided phone/pager, respond by telephone within 15 minutes, and report to the Boise VA Medical Center within 60 minutes when medically indicated.
• Planned clinic leave requests must generally be submitted 45 days in advance. Reliable attendance and continuity coverage are essential.
Minimum Qualifications
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Either status is acceptable and must remain current throughout the assignment.
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Physicians with a current or prior restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered, or denied license cannot be considered under the solicitation.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (or facility-accepted equivalent), active DEA registration, and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Recent, relevant clinical experience and demonstrated proficiency in the gastroenterology services and core procedures described above.
• Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently and to work effectively with VA clinical teams, patients, and trainees.
• Ability to meet all VA credentialing, privileging, occupational-health, background/security, access, and mandatory-training requirements before providing patient care.
Credentialing and Compliance
Selected physicians must provide timely documentation supporting education, training, clinical experience, licensure, certification, CME, peer review, and requested credentialing. Required health documentation includes current tuberculosis screening and evidence of required immunity/vaccination (MMR, varicella, Tdap, influenza, and hepatitis B/bloodborne-pathogen compliance). Candidates must satisfy federal work-authorization and screening requirements and may not be excluded from federal health care programs.
