Associate Veterinarian

Introduction
Our client is a privately owned veterinary hospital seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join their team on either a full-time or part-time basis in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The hospital provides care for cats and dogs and is open to an incoming veterinarian introducing a new species or developing a new service around a particular clinical interest. This is a rural practice with patient care at the heart of what they do, offering a slower-paced environment where the team has built fantastic relationships with clients and the local community.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As an Associate Veterinarian, you will provide high-quality patient care across appointments and surgery while building strong, long-term relationships with clients. The hospital gives the doctors the time to provide thoughtful care, with wellness appointments typically scheduled for 20 minutes and sick appointments for 30 minutes. The caseload is mixed and offers a variety of dentistry, spay and neuter procedures, abdominal surgery, soft tissue surgery, and some orthopaedic procedures if comfortable. More specialised orthopaedic cases can also be supported by an incoming surgeon. The hospital is extremely flexible when it comes to scheduling and is happy to discuss what works best for the incoming veterinarian. Full-time and part-time options are available. Days are generally shorter than a traditional veterinary schedule, typically around six to eight hours, with flexibility around start and finish times. Thursdays are usually surgery days, while other days are primarily appointments, often finishing earlier in the afternoon. The structure can be adapted around the incoming doctor's preferences, and there are no weekend requirements. Applications are welcomed from experienced veterinarians as well as new graduates. New graduates can receive mentorship and support from the current owner while developing their confidence and clinical skills. As the hospital is expected to remain primarily a one-DVM practice, the successful candidate will ultimately need to be comfortable working independently once they are set up in the clinic.

Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and is currently closed on Wednesdays and weekends. There are no plans to introduce weekend opening, although the hospital would be open to discussing Wednesdays if an incoming veterinarian wanted to work that day. This is a full-service hospital providing wellness care, diagnostics, dentistry, spay and neuter procedures, soft tissue surgery, abdominal surgery, and orthopaedic procedures. The hospital is equipped with dental X-ray, digital X-ray, in-house blood machines, ultrasound, and two anaesthesia machines. The practice is also open to developing additional services or caring for additional species based on the incoming veterinarian's interests.

Team
The hospital is currently led by one DVM and owner, who graduated in 2013.. She will remain available to provide mentorship and support, particularly for a new graduate joining the practice. The hospital has five employees in total, with approximately a 2:1 technician-to-doctor ratio alongside an experienced receptionist who helps structure appointments around the needs of each patient. The practice offers a small, flexible, non-corporate working environment where doctors have time to build relationships with clients and provide care without the pressure of a high-volume appointment schedule.

Candidate Requirements

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
