This job provides assistant services to one or more physician(s). Works independently with patients at times and also (when required at other times) under the direct supervision of a physician as set forth in state law and regulation in the clinic and operating room as set forth in hospital policy. Handles the coordination of all clinical care given to patients for the practice and works closely with support personnel for optimal patient care. Greets patients, communicates with patients pleasantly and efficiently and educates them in the anatomical aspects of their visit. Performs telephone and general office duties. Performs therapeutic procedures such as wound care, crutch and gait training and instructs patients on exercise. Schedules appointments for diagnostic examinations and physical therapy based on physician's orders.

Education

Required - Master's degree in Allied Health

Work Experience

Required - 3 years related experience, including experience evaluating and assessing patient injury

Certifications

Required - Certified Orthopedic technologist (OTC) BLS Certification Preferred - BOC certification Louisiana License Successful completion of a SMA Residency or equivalent program

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Job Duties

• Assists the physician in the clinic and operative setting (works independently and when required under the direct supervision of a physician).
• Performs telephone and general office duties.
• Assists physician with research related projects.
• Participates in professional development and required training and activity participates in staff committee projects.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
