Residential Direct Support Professional

Appalachian Community Services is hiring a Caregiver / Direct Support Professional (DSP) in the Murphy, NC area to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their behavioral health needs.

This role is a strong fit for experienced caregivers, DSPs, CNAs, HHAs, PCAs, home health workers, and other direct care professionals looking to continue their work in a meaningful, person-centered setting. It is also a great opportunity for dependablepeople who want to transition into caregiving and receive training and support.

What You’ll Do

As a Caregiver / Direct Support Professional (DSP) , you will:

• Provide daily, individualized care focused on client safety, health, and well-being
• Assist with personal care, including hygiene, grooming, feeding, and mobility
• Help with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and routine support
• Follow each client’s Person Centered Plan (PCP) and behavior support plan
• Support clients in building independence, daily living skills, and social skills
• Transport clients to appointments, shopping, and community outings
• Complete daily documentation and incident reports accurately and on time
• Respond to crisis situations and emergencies with professionalism and empathy
• Support clients with communication needs, including adaptive communication tools when needed
• Additional duties as required to meet client needs

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Reliable vehicle with insurance.
• Ability to work scheduled 12-hour shifts
• Physical ability to to work in a variety of environments including navigating stairs and other barriers in private residences.

Experience in direct care, caregiving, home health, behavioral health, or related support roles is helpful, but not required. Training is provided.
