Municipal Engineer

Job Description

Municipal Project Manager PE

Huntsville, AL

Growing firms need PMs who can actually run a project, not just manage a checklist. That's the search Southern Search is running for a multi-state civil engineering firm expanding its Huntsville presence into new municipal and site development work across Alabama and the Gulf Coast.

This isn't a wait for direction role. You'd own the client relationship, own the team, and own the outcome, with real say in how this office grows.

The Role

You're managing civil engineering projects from the first planning conversation through construction close-out. You're the person the client calls. You're leading engineers and technical staff, sometimes across office lines, and making the day to day calls on scope, schedule, and budget that keep a project on track.

Day to Day

\n
• Run projects end to end, planning through construction
\n
• Be the client's go-to contact and build relationships that turn into repeat business
\n
• Lead and coordinate project teams across multiple offices
\n
• Own project scope, schedule, and budget
\n
• Step in as Engineer of Record when needed, keeping everything compliant with codes, standards, and permitting requirements
\n
• Coordinate with MEP and other multidisciplinary teams
\n
• Help win new work: support proposals and client engagement as the Huntsville practice grows
\n
• Mentor newer engineers and help set the tone for a strong technical team
\n

What Gets You Considered

\n
• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, ABET-accredited program
\n
• Active Alabama PE license, non-negotiable
\n
• 10+ years in civil engineering, ideally site development and/or municipal infrastructure
\n
• Real experience managing projects and multidisciplinary teams, not just assisting on them
\n
• The people skills to run a client relationship, not just a spreadsheet
\n
• AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency and familiarity with Alabama permitting
\n
• An actual interest in helping build out a firm's Huntsville and Mobile presence, not just filling a seat
\n

The Package

Salary, Bonus, Medical, dental, and vision, company profit sharing, 401(k) with match, FSA/HSA, paid professional association dues, tuition and certification reimbursement, paid volunteer leave, employer-paid life insurance, and short and long-term disability.
