EL Specialist, 26-27

English Learner Specialist Provide overall support for the English Learner Program at Legacy Traditional Schools, engaging in training, professional development, and student instruction to promote English acquisition. Responsibilities Engage in all AZELLA Trainings that pertain to testing, test interpretation, differentiated instruction, and professional development for teachers. Provide professional development for teachers with EL students. Work with the School Testing Coordinator (STC) to create and implement a schedule for pulling out students for English language instruction. Provide EL tutoring before or after school and during students’ language development time. Track student English acquisition progress. Support students requiring English acquisition instruction and implement research‑based language interventions. Apply knowledge of K‑8 standards and effective instructional and assessment practices informed by language acquisition progression. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and school staff to improve instruction and monitor a comprehensive EL program. Collect and maintain records of student progress; provide timely oral and written feedback. Use a variety of data to evaluate student abilities and adjust instruction to meet EL student needs. Serve on the school data team to design, implement, and monitor a school EL plan. Facilitate instruction based on current research‑based best practices in English acquisition. Use district and state assessment data to improve instruction. Conduct individual diagnostic testing to assess student needs. Participate in team reviews concerning the academic progress of at‑risk students (MTSS). Attend scheduled meetings and parent conferences as needed. Communicate objectives, concerns, and ideas to students, colleagues, parents, and the community in a positive, professional, and ethical manner. Assume individual responsibilities assigned by the principal or supervisor, including committee work, student activities, supervision, or other planning and professional assignments. Complete and maintain any required certification logs, reports, files, and reviews. Education & Licensure Bachelor’s degree in an education‑related field. Certification in ESL, Bilingual, or SEI Endorsement required, along with a teaching license. Experience Demonstrated ability to interact with all students, create a safe learning environment, design lesson plans that meet state requirements, employ varied teaching strategies, identify individual student needs, and collaborate with teachers and school staff. Background Checks Criminal history background check required. Must possess an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and be able to maintain it. Physical & Travel Requirements Daily travel to the assigned location is required; occasional travel for professional development may be necessary. The position requires lifting up to 25 pounds on occasion and may involve sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and concentration. Local and in‑state travel is required.
