General Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Dept. Head General Maint. Pay Grade: DO 5 260 Days

Primary Purpose: To maintain all playgrounds, playground equipment, backstops, fences, and tennis courts in a safe, operable, and attractive condition

Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of playground equipment maintenance Knowledge in all areas of concrete work Experience: Three (3) or more years' experience in all areas of welding Experience in fence and backstop repair and installation

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Maintenance and Repair

• Maintain all playground equipment, backstops, fences, and tennis courts.
• Install new playground equipment, backstops, and fences.
• Inspect playgrounds and playground equipment as assigned by the department head.
• Report and needed repairs to the department head.
• Lay out, cut, and weld special projects as assigned by the department head.
• Design, install, and maintain concrete retaining walls for playground areas and estimate the amount of concrete needed.

Safety

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.
• Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools, meters, power tools, heavy equipment, welders (Mig-Arc-Tig)

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel
