The Dentist provides comprehensive oral health services to patients served by the Colville Tribes Health Care Authority under the Tribe’s P.L. 93-638 self-governance authority. This position is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, gums, and related oral structures. The Dentist promotes whole-person wellness through culturally grounded care, health education, and preventive outreach. This role supports the mission of strengthening community health and honoring Colville traditions while ensuring clinical excellence and compliance with professional standards. The Dentist will perform their job duties in a professional manner while assuring that all the needs of the patients are met with a pleasant demeanor.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Examine patients’ teeth, gums, and mouth to diagnose dental conditions.Perform routine dental exams and assessments.Diagnose oral diseases, injuries, and abnormalities.Develop individualized treatment plans for patients, discussing available options and recommending solutions.Conduct various dental procedures such as cleanings, fillings, crowns, extractions, root canals, and periodontal treatments.Perform oral surgeries when necessary, including extractions or implants.Administer local anesthesia and sedatives as needed for patient comfort.Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, proper diet, and preventive dental care.Provide advice on maintaining good oral health to prevent further issues.Offer emotional support to anxious or nervous patients.Ensure patients understand their treatment plan and follow-up care.Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient treatments, diagnoses, and progress.Complies and ensures compliance with applicable legislation, laws, codes, regulations, accreditation, funding and organizational requirements, policies and procedures.Ensure confidential handling of sensitive team member and patient information in line with data protection policies and laws.Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Requires a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.Requires completion of a residency program or equivalent clinical experience preferred.Requires current, unrestricted dental license in any U.S. state, territory, or tribal jurisdiction.Requires DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances (if applicable).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) preferred.HIPAA training within initial 90 days of employment.Blood borne pathogen training annually.Ability to understand, speak, communicate and read the English language.Prior experience in community health, IHS, or tribal health settings strongly preferred.Requires broad knowledge of general dentistry, including preventive, restorative, surgical, pediatric, and prosthodontic care.Requires knowledge of oral disease prevention, patient counseling, and public health strategies.Requires familiarity with tribal health systems, Indian Health Service standards, and cultural dimensions of health care delivery.Requires proficiency in dental software and electronic health records.Requires ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental conditions effectively.Ability to provide patient-centered, culturally competent care with sensitivity to tribal traditions and community values.Ability communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues in both clinical and community settings.Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care model.Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations and manage patient safety.Requires ability to utilize a multi-line telephone with good telephone etiquette.Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.Well-developed human relation skills to convey technical concepts to others.Ability to communicate technical information and to interact with a wide variety of groups and individuals inside and outside the organization.Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work processes in a high-volume environment in order to meet schedules and timelines.Ability to analyze data from multiple information ports by comparing and contrasting data to draw a conclusion or to identify trends.Ability to communicate professionally in written, verbal, and non-verbal format while portraying a friendly tone, word choice, and body language.Ability to take initiative and be proactive in the duties of the position in order to meet mandated deadlines and to comply with goals and objectives.Valid Washington State Driver’s License and be insurable is required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.Manual and finger dexterity to complete duties.Ability to frequently bend, stoop, and reach.Ability to push and pull frequently.Ability to comprehend complex issues.Sufficient visual acuity to write, recognize printed materials, computer screen, and notice non-verbal behavior.Speech and hearing ability to project voice to small and large audiences, carry on telephone conversations, hear and grasp verbal communications and equipment prompts.Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions.Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
