Medical Records Technician

The Contra Costa Health Department is offering excellent employment opportunities for qualified individuals interested in the Medical Records Technician positions. The department currently has two (2) vacancies in the Health Information Management (HIM) unit; however, hiring managers may use this eligible list from this recruitment to fill future vacancies in Central, East, or West Contra Costa County. The positions are located at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) in Martinez, CA and the Pittsburg Health Center (PHC) in Pittsburg, CA. Positions may be required to travel to different locations throughout Contra Costa County. Medical Records Technicians will assign diagnostic and procedural codes for billing and statistical indices using the current International Classification for Disease and Current Procedural Terminology coding classification systems, complete detailed analysis and abstraction of medical records for completeness and accuracy, answer questions from health care providers and the general public who request information related to medical record information, and other related work as required. What you will typically be responsible for: Creating, processing, and following up on Medical Records requests. Processing email requests from the unit’s inbox queue and verifying patient identification. Obtaining authorizations for various protected health information (PHI) requests. Updating the Release of Information (ROI) navigator for special legal restrictions or flags when necessary. Processing payments and checks and assists patients/representatives at the front window and answers phones.
