Tax Director

LHH (Atlanta) is looking for a Director of Tax for a fast-growing, well-known company. As the company scales, they're bringing tax leadership in-house for the first time at this level. This is a build-the-function seat: you'll own tax strategy end to end, manage outside advisors instead of being one, and sit close to decisions on expansion, financing, and structure that most tax leaders only read about after the fact.

What you'll own

• Lead the company’s overall tax strategy, planning, compliance, and risk management across federal, state, and local taxes.
• Manage income and franchise taxes across multiple states as the company expands.
• Oversee property tax matters, including valuations and appeals.
• Manage tax credits, exemptions, and other incentives that support the company’s growth plans.
• Develop tax-efficient depreciation and cost-recovery strategies.
• Advise on the tax implications of financings, joint ventures, acquisitions, and new legal entities.
• Oversee external tax advisors and determine which responsibilities should be brought in-house over time.

Qualifications

• CPA required.
• Prior Big Four public accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Significant corporate tax experience, ideally within a multi-state and growing organization.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax matters, including income, franchise, and property tax.
• Experience with tax planning, compliance oversight, and risk management.
• Proven ability to manage outside tax advisors, including Big Four and specialty firms.
• Strong business judgment and the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to senior leadership.

Compensation

• Base salary up to $225,000, depending on experience.
• Annual performance bonus.
