Landscape TechnicianThe Landscape Technician performs landscaping and grounds maintenance duties to ensure that Pender County Schools campuses are maintained in a safe, clean, and attractive condition. This position assists with mowing, trimming, planting, irrigation maintenance, and general upkeep of school grounds, athletic fields, and exterior areas.Qualifications:Licensing/Certification:Valid North Carolina Driver's LicenseNorth Carolina Pesticide Applicator License preferred or ability to obtain within a specified time periodAbility to operate district vehicles and landscaping equipmentEducation:Technical training or coursework in landscaping, horticulture, or turf management preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredExperience:At least five (5) years of successful experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related field preferredAny combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilitiesEssential Functions:Perform mowing, trimming, edging, and general grounds maintenance at school campuses and district facilitiesMaintain landscaped areas including planting, pruning, mulching, and watering plants and shrubsAssist with maintenance of athletic fields and playground areasOperate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance toolsApply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety regulations and district proceduresRemove debris, litter, and fallen branches from school groundsAssist with seasonal landscaping activities including planting and grounds preparationIdentify and report grounds maintenance issues or safety concernsAssist with storm cleanup and emergency grounds maintenance as neededMaintain landscaping equipment and tools in safe operating conditionFollow all district safety procedures and operational guidelinesKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of basic landscaping and grounds maintenance practicesKnowledge of safe operation of landscaping equipment and toolsKnowledge of planting, pruning, and turf maintenance techniquesAbility to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a teamAbility to identify maintenance issues and report them appropriatelyAbility to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkersReports To: Maintenance DirectorPhysical Demands:The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and arms to perform landscaping duties. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to operate landscaping equipment and tools and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. Other required abilities include close vision, the ability to adjust visual focus, and the ability to talk and hear.Work Environment:The employee regularly works outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. The employee may be exposed to noise from landscaping equipment and machinery.
