Gift Shop Customer Service & Sales Team Member

This role will support the hospital gift shop customer service & sales team, providing excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff in a compassionate, hospital-based retail environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Customer Service: Greet customers, answer product questions, and assist with selections and purchases.

• Point of Sale (POS): Operate POS systems to process transactions accurately (cash, credit, mobile payments). Handle returns, exchanges, and basic customer concerns in a professional manner while maintaining a welcoming, clean, and organized shopping environment.

• Merchandising & Inventory: Support stocking shelves, racks, and displays with merchandise in accordance with visual standards. Assist with receiving, unpacking, and organizing inventory shipments. Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to supervisors.

• Pricing & Displays: Ensure proper pricing, labeling, and signage accuracy. Support seasonal resets, promotional displays, and special campaigns.

• Store Operations: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sales floor, checkout area, and stockroom. Follow opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and register balancing (if assigned).

• Compliance & Safety: Adhere to hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control guidelines. Assist with loss prevention practices and report discrepancies or concerns regarding mission support (if applicable).

• Mission Support: Represent the organization's mission with professionalism and sensitivity to support fundraising initiatives through merchandise and promotional efforts. Engage customers in mission-aligned conversations when appropriate.

• Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with full-time staff, volunteers, and leadership. Communicate effectively regarding shift updates, inventory issues, and customer feedback. Provide support across retail locations as needed.

• Administration & Events: Perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, tagging, or organizing records. Assist with special events, pop-up shops, or hospital-related initiatives.

• General Duties: Complete assigned tasks and projects within designated timelines. Adapt to changing needs in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Requirements

• 1-2 plus years' experience in a retail or customer service environment.

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and inventory tasks.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environment.

• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

• Team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $18.00
