Clinical Coordinator PreOp/PACU

Overview The Clinical Coordinator (usually a Registered Nurse) will coordinate therapeutic, patient/family‑centered care in accordance with physician orders and the facility's philosophy, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements. The role involves applying nursing process knowledge to patient admissions, communicating with all staff, and documenting the admission assessment process in accordance with AORN Standards. Job Type Full‑time. Working Relationships Represent the facility in all interactions, maintaining professionalism and fostering teamwork among patients, physicians, anesthesia staff, volunteers, vendors, and co‑workers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain clinical knowledge and skills necessary for safe, effective patient care. Assist with daily staffing and resolve patient/physician/employee issues in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Administrator. Coordinate staffing schedules for assigned areas based on census, and coordinate lunches and breaks. Clinical Practice Demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice for the ages served (ADOLESCENT 13‑17, ADULT 18‑69, GERIATRIC 70+). Provide accurate information and oversee nursing process execution. Communicate timely patient care information; record accurately. Use appropriate lines of communication. Assessment and Planning Process: Collect data by patient interview. Perform physical assessment for all age groups according to the care plan. Recognize normal/abnormal variances in assessment per age group. Review records. Plan of Care: Prioritize, integrate with pre‑operative plan, and involve physician orders. Reflect management of identified problems and observations of patient responses. Demonstrate appropriate dose calculations and medication administration. Re‑evaluate and modify the plan as indicated. Clinical Leadership Accept responsibility for nursing activities related to patient care. Apply judgment and decision‑making skills. Advocate for patients' physical and psychological needs. Preceptor new staff and orient them. Communicate effectively and manage stressful situations. Create safe, comfortable environment for surgery. Additional Duties Advocate for patients pre‑operatively. Maintain calm and courteous demeanor. Anticipate potential situations and institute procedures. Complete self‑assessment of procedural competency. Assist anesthesia staff with metric qualifications. Document and record patient pre‑operative clearance. Provide communication channel before surgery. Ensure patients' charts are complete pre‑admission. Explain procedures and orders to patients/families. Act as liaison between center, surgeon, anesthesia team, and patient. Stock work area with necessary supplies. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee professional and non‑professional personnel, including training, assigning, and directing work in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Physical Demands Requires standing, walking, sitting, and speaking/hearing. May be required to use hands to manipulate objects; lift up to 10 lb routinely and up to 25 lb occasionally. Vision requirements: close vision, depth perception, focus adjustment. Work Environment Moderate noise levels; occasional exposure to communicable diseases. Requirements Education and Experience – Associate degree (AA) or equivalent; RN preferred; two‑ or three‑year related experience and/or training. Licensure and Certification – Current RN license in Illinois; BLS certification within 6 months of hire. Skills and Abilities – Strong reading, interpreting, and communication skills; mathematical competence; problem‑solving and reasoning ability; adaptability to change and continued education; effective interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize and communicate with patients, families, and staff.
