Technical Product Specialist
SENSIT Technologies
The Technical Product Specialist serves as the connection between our customers, sales team, and product development organization. This role combines technical training, field evaluations, deployment support, and customer-facing problem solving. You will spend time in both the field and at customer sites, helping utilities and emergency responders successfully adopt and use SENSIT products. You will also bring customer feedback back to the organization in a structured way that influences product improvements and future development. What You Would Actually Do Deliver customer training on SENSIT Instruments (GOLD 3, TRAK-IT 4, PMD2 and LZ-30) at gas utilities and fire departments, usually a combination of a classroom session out on the street. Travel with a Regional Sales Manager when a utility puts new instruments into service and stay engaged until crews can confidently use them without you standing there. Spend a shift walking with a leak survey crew, watching how they actually hold and read the instrument, and record what you see instead of what the manual says happens. Answer the technical questions that hold up a decision: calibration intervals, response time, how a reading behaves at 20°F in the rain, how the data comes off the instrument and into their system. Write trip reports that both product management and sales leadership read and act on. Build the customer-facing guidance people keep asking for, including quick reference cards, survey procedures and training material a supervisor can deliver without us in the room. Support new product introductions at the first accounts to take delivery, and report back what breaks, what confuses people and what they work around. As a by-product of your exposure to customers, gather voice-of-customer work, tied to live roadmap decisions. You gather that evidence in a structured way and present it. Assist Regional Sales Managers with product demonstrations, field evaluations, and technical discussions during customer purchasing decisions. Support troubleshooting efforts for customers and serve as a technical resource during deployment, startup, and ongoing use of SENSIT products. Physical & Working Conditions Parts of this are hard. You will spend early mornings in weather and in places nobody chose for comfort, and you will start as the least experienced person on site while the customer expects you to have the answer. Trip reports get written in a hotel room or airport after a long day, and they still have to be good. To succeed in this environment, candidates should be comfortable with the physical and travel requirements of the role, including: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Ability to walk for extended periods on uneven terrain and active work sites. Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to travel by automobile and commercial airline as required. 0 – 6 Months – Learn the Products, Applications, and Customers You will learn SENSIT products and the applications they support, both in the office and in the field. You will deliver training using established materials alongside an experienced colleague, support customer deployments with Regional Sales Managers, and begin building customer relationships. From your first trip, you will write field reports that are reviewed by experienced team members who will provide coaching and feedback to help you improve. 6 – 18 Months – Lead Customer Training and Deployment Support By this stage, you will be independently delivering customer training and leading deployment support at assigned accounts. You will become the first point of contact for many routine technical questions and objections because you have seen the applications firsthand and understand how customers use the equipment in the field. You will also begin producing quarterly Voice of Customer summaries that help guide products and business decisions. 18+ Months – Drive Adoption and Influence Product Direction You will take ownership of customer adoption and change management efforts for new products, helping utilities successfully implement new technologies and adapt established workflows. You will provide structured customer feedback and requirements to Product Management and Engineering, contributing directly to future product development. At this point, you will also be considered for an advancement into a Regional Sales Manager territory, which is the intended career path for this role. What We Are Looking For You’ll likely be successful in this role if you: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a comparable hands‑on technical background. Mechanical, electrical, chemical, environmental, instrumentation, and related disciplines are all acceptable. Technical curiosity. You take things apart to understand how they work and enjoy learning new technology. A preference for field work over desk work. You are comfortable spending time at customer sites, utility facilities, and active work environments. The ability to explain technical concepts to experienced users in a way that is clear, practical, and respectful. Strong written communication skills. The quality of your trip reports and customer observations will directly influence business decisions. A willingness to learn gas detection, utility operations, and customer applications from the ground up. Prior experience is not required. Ability to travel approximately 30 – 40% of the time, with heavier travel during peak utility seasons. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle. Prior experience that would help, but isn’t required: Exposure to gas utilities, pipeline operations, leak survey programs, emergency response organizations, or field instrumentation. Experience working with sensors, gas analysis equipment, spectroscopy, data acquisition systems, or related technologies. Experience delivering training, instruction, coaching, or presentations to groups. Field experience supporting customers, operators, technicians, or industrial users. Experience gathering customer feedback and translating observations into recommendations or process improvements.
