Position Summary This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain‑producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. The RN‑CRN works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings and staff who care for patients. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education Required – Master's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Work Experience Required – None. Certifications Required – License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice. Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA); Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Proficient with Windows‑style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability). Job Duties Document patient procedures and incidents. Assess patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia. Ensure patient safety and administer anesthesia following accepted practice techniques. Act as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co‑workers, patients, and families. Participate in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
