The Company is in search of a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and provide strategic legal counsel on a wide range of complex legal, regulatory, governance, and institutional matters. The successful candidate will be a proactive, solutions-oriented leader with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a minimum of 7-10 years' of legal experience, preferably in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or similarly regulated environments. The General Counsel will be responsible for advising the President, Board of Trustees, and senior leadership, and must have a strong understanding of federal and state laws affecting higher education, including employment law, student affairs, and regulatory compliance. The role also involves managing sensitive and high-impact institutional matters, supporting executive-level decision-making, and fostering a culture of informed, ethical decision-making and institutional accountability. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a current license to practice law in the State of Minnesota or be eligible for admission. A demonstrated commitment to the Catholic faith and identity of the institution is required, with a preference for practicing Catholics. The ideal candidate will have experience in crisis management, and institutional response, and a proven ability to balance legal risk with institutional mission and strategic priorities. Essential skills include outstanding communication, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships. The General Counsel will also be involved in policy development, contract management, and will be expected to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and political acumen in highly sensitive situations.
