Registered Nurse I

The Registered Nurse I assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care. This is done utilizing the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures. The purpose is to monitor and evaluate patient functional status. The nurse utilizes the nursing process to care for patients. This includes assessing, organizing, and completing patient care. Consideration is given to patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. The nurse documents steps of the nursing process. Proper medical terminology is utilized. Problems and progress toward goals are addressed. Facilitates patient discharge through timely, appropriate referrals. Utilization of patient education resources is suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate. Support for unit/hospital goals is demonstrated through performance improvement and educational activities. Attendance at in-services, meeting unit education standards, and completing variance reports is required. Independent judgment is used in making decisions from many diversified alternatives. This is subject to general review in final stages only. The nurse coordinates activities of others but does not supervise. Input on performance evaluations is provided, though the nurse does not prepare or give them. Direct work with patients and/or customers occurs regularly. Internal customer interactions take place via telephone or face-to-face. External customer interactions occur in similar manners. The nurse frequently works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Interaction with individuals at the Director level or above is routine.
