GRPS DIRECTOR

The Groups Director at History Makers Church is responsible for building, developing, and sustaining a healthy, growing groups ministry that helps people find community, spiritual growth, and connection within the church. This role provides leadership, coaching, strategic oversight, and pastoral care to group leaders while ensuring that church culture is consistently carried throughout all groups and environments.

The Groups Director will oversee the recruitment, training, development, and support of leaders across multiple group categories, including SØNS (men’s groups), DGHTRS (women’s groups),Marriage, Young Adults, Youth, Courses and Lifestyle Groups. This position also analyzes participation trends, forecasts ministry needs, and develops systems that support healthy and scalable growth.



 

Previous ministry experience would be an asset to this role but is not a requirement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



 

Leadership & Pastoral Care
● Build strong relationships with group leaders and co-leaders through regular meetings,
coaching, encouragement, and pastoral support.
● Ensure leaders feel cared for, equipped, valued, and connected to the vision and culture of
the church.
● Coach leaders in maintaining healthy group dynamics, discipleship practices, and church
culture.
● Provide ongoing leadership development and accountability for all group leaders.



 

Recruitment & Leadership Development
● Recruit and identify at least two potential group leaders each Sunday.
● Develop a clear leadership pipeline for onboarding, training, and multiplying leaders.
● Create pathways for emerging leaders to grow into coaching and leadership roles.
● Maintain a healthy balance of leadership coverage across all demographics and ministries
that supports the pace of growth of our church.



 

Groups Oversight & Growth Strategy
● Oversee and support all church groups, including:
○ SØNS GRPS (Men’s groups)
○ DGHTRS GRPS (Women’s Groups)

○ Youth GRPS
○ Courses (e.g., Financial Peace University, Marriage Course)
○ Lifestyle Groups (e.g., cooking, paddleball, fitness, hobbies, interest-based groups)
● Monitor and report attendance, engagement, retention, and multiplication of groups.
● Evaluate group health and effectiveness across various demographics and life stages.
● Develop strategies to increase participation, discipleship, and member engagement.



 

Training & Events
● Strategize and coordinate lead leader training, onboarding sessions, workshops, and
development events.
● Plan and execute seasonal GRPS Fairs and promotional events to help people connect into
community.
● Collaborate with ministry departments and church staff to align group initiatives with
church-wide vision and calendar.



 

Strategic Planning & Metrics
● Track and analyze group metrics, attendance trends, demographic engagement, and
growth patterns.
● Forecast future ministry needs and recommend strategic opportunities for expansion or
improvement.
● Develop systems and processes that support sustainable growth and leadership
multiplication.
● Prepare regular reports and updates for Senior Pastors.
Communication & Administration
● Maintain accurate group records, leader databases, attendance tracking, and
communication systems.
● Ensure timely communication with leaders, participants, and staff teams.
● Help create promotional materials and communication strategies for groups and events.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Strong and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
● Alignment with the vision, values, and beliefs of History Makers Church.
● Proven leadership experience in ministry, small groups, discipleship, or team development.
● Strong relational, coaching, and communication skills.
● Ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers and leaders.
● Strategic thinker with strong organizational and administrative abilities.
● Experience using metrics and data to guide ministry decisions and growth strategies.
● Ability to lead teams, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast-paced ministry
environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience leading groups or discipleship ministries in a growing church environment.
● Experience with church management software and data tracking systems.
● Strong collaborative skills and volunteer management experience.
● Background in leadership development, pastoral care, or organizational growth.

REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports directly to the Senior Pastors.

● Clear evidence of church culture being carried throughout groups.
● 6-10% of weekend attendance in GRPS
● Increased participation across demographics and life stages.

● Effective systems for tracking, reporting, and forecasting ministry growth.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Actively network with churches (find your 3) and organizations outside of History Makers
Church in order to gain knowledge, creative solutions and support – bringing The Church
together.
● 80% of all Staff roles at History Makers Church are weighed on their specific roles and
responsibilities. The other 20% is dedicated to: WIT - Whatever it takes! Our goal is to
always advance the vision and mission of God’s church: to see everyone live a better story
and we will do whatever it takes (short of sin) to do so!
