Job Description
This maintenance mechanic role ensures the reliable operation of all rubber manufacturing equipment, including mixing, weighing, conveying, and auxiliary systems. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime, safety, and product quality. This position plays a key role in maintaining consistent production throughput and product integrity in a demanding rubber manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mixers, mills, conveyors, dust collection systems, hydraulic presses, and other plant machinery.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues, including systems operating at 480V.
• Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures to minimize downtime and prevent recurring issues.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and spare parts usage in accordance with plant procedures.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance plans on production equipment and utilities to ensure reliable operation.
• Assist in implementing predictive maintenance tools such as vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and lubrication monitoring.
• Recommend improvements to maintenance schedules and practices to extend equipment life and enhance reliability.
• Ensure strict compliance with plant safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable OSHA standards.
• Support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives by following established guidelines and reporting hazards.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to reduce safety risks and minimize production losses.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to coordinate maintenance activities and support process improvements.
• Use appropriate hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and measuring instruments safely and effectively.
• Read and interpret technical documentation, equipment manuals, and schematics to plan and perform maintenance tasks.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or technical school certification in mechanical or electrical maintenance, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in rubber, plastics, or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including motors, gearboxes, and bearings.
• Solid understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their maintenance.
• Working knowledge of basic electrical systems, including equipment operating at 480V.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues.
• Experience using hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and measuring instruments in an industrial setting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, equipment manuals, and electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Strong commitment to safety, including adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and OSHA standards.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate effectively with maintenance and production teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying root causes and implementing lasting solutions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in rubber or plastics manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Exposure to predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and lubrication monitoring.
• Basic welding skills for equipment repair and fabrication support.
• Experience supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives in a plant setting.
• Flexibility to work second shift schedules and respond to urgent maintenance needs as required.

Work Environment
This position is based in a rubber manufacturing facility operating on a second shift schedule, typically 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. You will work around mixers, mills, conveyors, dust collection systems, hydraulic presses, and other heavy industrial equipment. The facility is non-climate controlled, with regular exposure to heat, dust, noise, oils, and chemicals, and is an older plant undergoing ongoing renovation and improvement. The role requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and OSHA standards, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment suited to a busy, industrial production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Olive Branch, MS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
