RN Clinical Nurse II- Acute Neurosurgery & ENT Unit Part Time

Description The Acute Neurosurgery and ENT Care unit is a 27-bed unit comprised of post-operative surgical patients. Our Neurosurgical patients have a variety of presentations including post-operative brain and spinal surgeries, cancer, neuro- and spinal-trauma, and stroke. Our ENT patients predominately present with head and neck malignancies, including cancer and infection, and require a variety of surgical interventions involving the head, mouth, tongue, jaw, thyroid, and oropharynx. Working on this unit will provide countless opportunities to expand and strengthen foundational clinical and critical thinking skills including airway management, tracheal suctioning, drains, feeding tubes, in-depth neurological and stroke assessment, and much more. Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; attend education programs based on identified learning needs; use patient education materials relevant to patient population; assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance as needed in revision of plan of care; participate in discussion with interdisciplinary team; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems; perform bedside point-of-care testing as required; utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding complex care issues and high risk discharge planning. Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations; achieve goals and objectives within identified timeframe; be knowledgeable about activities facilitating intra/interdepartmental collaboration; participate in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities; use communication systems effectively; promote cost–effective care; give feedback to co‑workers; be aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines; promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities; include appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data into a meaningful whole; assess and anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to promote advocacy. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Read journals with studies applicable to practice; bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
