Position Summary:
The Adjunct Faculty position in the Art & Design department with focus on Studio Arts offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the academic and creative development of students within a dynamic educational environment. This role primarily involves delivering high-quality instruction in specialized subject areas, fostering critical thinking, and inspiring artistic expression. The successful candidate will design and implement engaging curricula that align with institutional standards and industry trends, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Collaboration with full-time faculty and participation in departmental activities are essential to support a vibrant learning community. Ultimately, this position aims to enrich the educational experience, preparing students for successful careers in the Art & Design field.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Digital Design or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in the studio arts, design and the creative industry.
- Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level or equivalent instructional experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching modalities and educational technologies.
- Professional portfolio or documented achievements in artistic or design projects.
- Familiarity with curriculum design and assessment strategies in higher education.
- Active involvement in professional organizations related to arts and design.
- Ability to mentor students and support their career development within the industry.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver course content that meets academic standards and reflects current industry practices.
- Engage students through lectures, discussions, workshops, and hands-on projects to facilitate comprehensive learning.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and presentations, providing constructive feedback to support growth.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and course materials in compliance with institutional policies.
- Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and other departmental initiatives as required.
Skills:
The required skills enable the adjunct faculty member to create and deliver compelling course content that resonates with students and reflects current industry standards. Effective communication skills are essential for facilitating engaging lectures and providing meaningful feedback that promotes student growth. Organizational skills support the management of course logistics, including grading and record-keeping, ensuring compliance with institutional requirements. Preferred skills such as proficiency with educational technology enhance the ability to teach in diverse formats, including online environments, broadening access and engagement. Additionally, mentorship and networking skills help foster student success by connecting academic learning with real-world opportunities in the arts and design sectors.
Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.

This is an on-site position based at the Historic Gainesville Campus located in Gainesville, Georgia.
Travel Requirements :
Minimal local travel and operation of a university vehicle and/or one’s own vehicle required. Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record.

Special Requirements:
Brenau University conducts various screenings to ensure a safe and secure environment. These checks are a condition of employment and may be performed at different times throughout employment. (1) Background Checks: All new hires must undergo a criminal background check. To maintain employment, individuals must have and maintain a favorable criminal history. The university may also conduct random background checks. Additional checks may be performed for certain roles. (2) Credit Checks: required for positions that handle university funds or credit cards or as otherwise required. (3) Motor Vehicle and Driving Checks: employees who operate a university vehicle or drive on university business must have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) run as part of the new hire process or as the requirement to drive is added to job responsibilities. To be approved for university travel, employees must meet the following criteria: be at least 21 years old, have and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license, and have and maintain a good driving record. As a condition of employment, employees must report any arrest (within five days of its occurrence) to the Office of Human Resources, including traffic violations for those listed on our auto insurance policy. Disclosure of subsequent legal action (conviction, dismissal of charges, etc.) must also be reported to the Office of Human Resources. It will be evaluated considering continued employment with the immediate supervisor. (4) Drug Screening: pre-employment/post-offer drug screens and random drug screens are performed for certain sensitive positions. Random drug screens are also performed on those who travel regularly, or those who operate a university vehicle. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.
