About the Department:
The Community Support Team addresses and responds to various social issues such as behavioral health, addiction, and homelessness. This team integrates the expertise of police officers, firefighters, social workers, and healthcare professionals to provide a comprehensive and compassionate response to those in need. Through their coordinated approach, the Community Support Team offers outreach, education, and connection to essential services and resources. By working together, they can provide a balanced approach to enforcement and support, helping to improve the well-being and safety of the community. The team is committed to ensuring that individuals receive the help they need, whether it's through direct intervention, connecting them to community resources, or providing education on available services. This integrated model allows for a more effective and humane response to the complex challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Everett. About the Job:
Under the general supervision of the Community Support Manager or their designee, employees in this class respond to those in crisis and provide assessment and navigation to individuals with complex needs, such as those with co-occurring disorders, behavioral health concerns, comorbid conditions, housing, financial, and other social service needs. They work alongside emergency medical services (EMS) responders, police officers, and other first responders to address residents' needs for care coordination, social service resources, and crisis intervention that have come through the 911 system or have been directly referred to the social work team.
Employees in this classification may be requested by, receive referrals from, self-deploy to assist those in crisis, and/or accompany first responders to provide overall clinical assessment of client needs. Crisis Responders will refer to appropriate community services and connect clients to case management and other relevant follow-up services. Their work is reviewed through conferences, documentation review, report analysis, and observations.
Crisis Responders play a vital role in promoting well-being through assessment, brief intervention, and referrals to services. They use their knowledge of human behavior, sociology, psychiatry, psychology, and other social sciences to provide compassionate and culturally responsive support. Their work involves advocacy, de-escalation, and crisis intervention, often conducted in community settings like healthcare organizations, businesses, homes, public spaces, and social service agencies. They collaborate with local, regional, state, and federal programs to identify and address gaps in resources, focusing on crisis intervention, resource referral, and follow-up.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.
- A master's degree AND two (1) years' experience in the direct treatment of individuals who acutely and severely mentally ill, those with substance use disorders, and those with comorbidities. With a valid Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW or LICSWA), or similar licensure through the department of health or eligibility within 6 months of hire of said licensure.
- OR
- A bachelor's degree AND three (3) years' experience in the direct treatment of individuals who acutely and severely mentally ill, those with substance use disorders, and those with comorbidities. A valid substance use disorder professional (SUDP) or (SUDPT) licensure through the department of health required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to pass an extensive criminal history background.
- Individual may be required to wear a uniform in this role.
PHYSICAL DEMAND/WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work may involve outreach to individuals who are living in their personal homes, vehicles, or whom may be living on the streets, in shelters or located in suburban campsites.
- The work is performed under often physically demanding, stressful, and environmentally diverse conditions, and requires the ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and demands.
- The incumbent may be exposed to hostile and/or aggressive client behaviors presenting a personal risk of bodily harm.
- Work environments may expose incumbent to biohazards, needles, garbage, rodents, aggressive animals, and other possible otherwise considered unsafe environmental factors.
- Work may require visits to jails and out-of-town locations, emergency rooms and other medical facilities.
- Work is performed primarily in vehicles, and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes and/or in wet and/or in humid conditions, during day and night hours.
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, tablet computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
- Must be physically capable of lifting, walking, moving, carrying, climbing, bending, kneeling, walking, crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone, radios and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
- Travel by various modes of private and commercial transportation within the region may be required.
- Attendance and participation at evening meetings may be required.
- Must be able and willing to work all shifts, including evenings.
