Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Obstetrician/Gynecologist to join our OB/GYN division as an OB Laborist, located on the beautiful southeastern coastline of Massachusetts. The OB Laborist will play a vital role within a team that includes 7 full-time OBGYN physicians, 2 gynecologists, and 7 Certified Nurse Midwives. Our aim is to enhance our OB Laborist program, ensuring a balanced work/life dynamic while expanding our capacity to serve the community with our commitment to best practices.

Our OB Laborists collaborate closely with providers to ensure a seamless experience for patients and their families throughout the perinatal journey.

The OB Laborists will primarily operate at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA, with plans to extend services to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA, to better serve our patients. Both hospitals are designated as Level II Maternity Centers, featuring Level II nursery care and pioneering combined mother/baby rooms in the New England region. The responsibilities of the OB Laborists will focus solely on triage and inpatient care, with no outpatient duties required. The contracted OB Laborist is expected to fulfill a minimum of 12 to 24-hour call shifts each month, as specified in the contract. Typically, a part-time OB Laborist covers 24 hours weekly, while a full-time OB Laborist provides 48 hours of call coverage each week.

• A collaborative practice of 9 physicians supported by 7 Certified Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners, known for quality care and community dedication.
• The Family Centered Unit at St. Luke's Hospital is a cutting-edge maternity unit recognized annually for excellence in maternity care.
• Approximately 1,800 deliveries are conducted each year.
• Board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics & Gynecology is required.
• State-of-the-art Level II Nursery staffed by physicians from Boston Children's Hospital.
• 24/7 Maternal Fetal Medicine consultative and support services available in collaboration with Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
• An on-site Gynecologic Oncology Program led by Dr. Tina Robison, affiliated with Tufts Medical Center, offering 24/7 consultative and support services.
• Urogynecology consultative and co-management services available for both outpatient and inpatient care.
• Opportunities to engage in scheduled OBGYN educational seminars and M&M conferences within the organization.
