Library Media Specialist – Will Rogers Elementary Position Type: Certified Teacher Date Posted: 5/4/2026 Location: Will Rogers Elementary Qualifications Credentials: None Education: Master's degree and State Certification Training or Experience Required: Prior experience with computerized learning centers. Job Summary Performs professional-level responsibilities of a school librarian as teacher, leader, instructional partner, information specialist, and program administrator. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Communication: Basic oral, written, and business communication skills to exchange information. Grammar Knowledge: Ability to prepare correspondence and proof completed material in clear, grammatically correct English. Data Recording/Record Keeping: Performs data recording operations on existing computerized records. Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations using basic arithmetic. Reading and Interpretation: Interprets routine written material, charts, diagrams, and maps. Business Machines: Operates business machines such as computers, copiers, laminators, and photocopiers with minimal training. Office Filing and Retrieval: Files and retrieves materials from an existing filing system. Client Interaction: Contacts public via phone or in person to determine information needs and facilitate media location. Essential Job Functions (Performance Responsibilities) Empower all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, readers, researchers, curators, and ethical users of information. Collaborate and co-teach with classroom educators to establish learning objectives and assessment strategies. Develop and maintain a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, collaborative, inclusive, and conducive to learning. Champion equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical space and beyond, including providing 24/7 access to the online library catalog. Foster exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset. Support learners’ success by guiding them to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasure. Empower learners to collaborate and constructively assess their own work and the work of peers. Model and champion digital citizenship and safety while adhering to copyright and fair use requirements. Teach all members of the learning community to engage with and use information in a global society. Develop a commitment to respect equity, diversity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning community. Support learners in creating new knowledge by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance. Address broader educational issues with other educators at the building, district, and professional association level. Develop and support the school's and the school library's mission, strategic plan, and policies. Manage the staff, budget, and the physical and virtual spaces of the school library. Evaluate, introduce, and model emerging technologies while using technology tools to supplement school resources. Participate as an active leader of the local and global learning community, building relationships with organizations and stakeholders. Perform other duties as assigned. Other Performance Measures Requires good customer service and people skills to resolve problems and provide information. Requires following safety guidelines and policies, including exposure control for bloodborne pathogens. Requires following school dress, attendance, and leave policies. Creativity, initiative, and effective problem solving are important to the success of the position. Must maintain a positive attitude and be cooperative toward staff, the public, and students. Supervision exercised Employee does not supervise other employees. Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, reaching above shoulder, and pushing/pulling. Occasional lifting of chairs, classroom equipment, and supplies. Dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines. Ability to supervise students in classroom and outside settings. Ability to communicate with students and parents. Ability to assist students with normal activities. Terms of Employment Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
