Histotechnician - Per diem

Job Overview Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Cincinnati, OH. Work Schedule: Per diem as needed (starting between the hours of 12p - 2p through 8p - 10p). Responsibilities Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam. Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens. Section embedded tissue, using a microtome, and mount the section properly on a microscope slide. Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures. Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens. Prepare stains and reagents needed for special procedures. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments. Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed. Record equipment log data accurately and promptly. Perform preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies. Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting. Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in Histology or a high school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of histology experience. Preferred Qualifications Three months or more of histology experience. Three months or more of immunohistochemistry experience. Histology and/or ASCP certifications. Additional Job Standards Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens. Understanding of laboratory operations and related policies and procedures. Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers and familiar with laboratory information systems. High level of attention to detail with strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position. Must pass a standardized color blindness test. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs. In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements. Pay Range $25.00–$40.00 per hour + 2nd shift differential.
