Duration: 6+ Months

Position Summary

• Support daily landfill operations by maintaining clean and safe work areas.
• Collect windblown litter and remove debris throughout the landfill.
• Assist landfill staff in meeting environmental and operational standards.
• Help maintain compliance with County, State, and Federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect windblown litter from landfill working areas.
• Patrol landfill boundaries to retrieve scattered litter.
• Install, maintain, and reposition litter control fencing and tarps.
• Perform daily site housekeeping and debris removal.
• Clean public drop-off areas and operational zones.
• Support stormwater channel, berm, and buffer zone maintenance.
• Report hazards, medical waste, fire risks, and unsafe conditions.
• Work safely around heavy equipment and landfill vehicles.
• Operate hand tools such as grabbers, rakes, brooms, and blowers.
• Assist with storm preparation and post-storm cleanup.
• Support operations at other Solid Waste facilities as needed.
• Follow all PPE, traffic control, and safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to perform continuous outdoor physical labor.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Comfortable working in landfill and waste management environments.
• Reliable transportation to the Puʻuanahulu Landfill.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.

Work Environment

• Outdoor work in hot, windy, dusty, and rainy conditions.
• Exposure to solid waste, odors, insects, and wildlife.
• Frequent walking on uneven terrain.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs .
• Work near heavy equipment and landfill truck traffic.
• Must wear steel-toe boots, long pants, and long-sleeve shirts.
