Atkins & Pearce Inc

POSITION: Quality Assurance Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Quality REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

LOCATION: Covington, KY (onsite location) FLSA STATUS: Exempt (Full-Time)

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance professional at Atkins & Pearce will support the Quality Manager in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS). This role focuses on process monitoring, root cause analysis, training, and driving data-driven improvements to ensure consistent quality across products and processes. The ideal candidate will emphasize preventive quality measures, empower cross-functional teams, and help address persistent quality challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support QMS Development and Maintenance: Assist with maintaining and improving QMS processes, ensuring alignment with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001). Support documentation updates and help transition systems to meet process-dependent standards.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Support: Assist with investigating recurring quality issues using structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 5 Whys, FMEA). Focus on root-cause analysis to prevent defects and improve long-term process reliability.
  • Training and Documentation Expertise: Collaborate with the Quality Manager to develop standardized work instructions, SOPs, and user-friendly quality aids to support a less-experienced workforce.
  • Data-Driven Quality Monitoring: Collect and analyze quality metrics to identify trends, generate insights, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor KPIs and participate in improvement projects to reduce defects, waste, and rework.
  • Team Empowerment: Support production teams through coaching and guidance on quality checkpoints, ensuring operators understand their role in maintaining quality standards.
  • Change Management Support: Assist in implementing process changes or new quality systems. Help motivate and train teams to adopt new processes effectively.
  • Focus on Preventive Quality Measures: Emphasize upstream quality improvements by identifying potential risks before they occur, reducing reactive efforts and ensuring consistent performance.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in quality assurance, manufacturing, or a related role.
  • Skills:
  • Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and process improvement tools.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to collect and interpret quality data.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills for training and SOP development.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality challenges.
  • Basic understanding of problem-solving techniques like 5 Whys, root cause analysis, or FMEA.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around in a manufacturing environment as needed.
  • Occasionally required to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and machinery.

Work Environment

The Quality Assurance professional will primarily work in an office setting within the manufacturing facility, with regular visits to the production floor for audits, inspections, and team training.
