The Global Network Director is responsible for the strategy, architecture, engineering, operations, security, financial management, and lifecycle governance of AES's global network infrastructure. This leader owns the end-to-end delivery of network services across corporate, utilities, renewable, and distributed business operations, ensuring secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective connectivity for all business functions worldwide.

The role provides leadership for Network Architecture & Engineering and Global Network Operations teams while driving modernization initiatives, operational excellence, vendor performance, cybersecurity alignment, and network transformation programs. The Director serves as the primary technology leader for enterprise networking and connectivity services across on-premises, cloud, datacenter, WAN, SD-WAN, Internet, voice, and remote access environments.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

• Serve as a direct report and strategic partner to the Senior Director, Global Infrastructure, shaping and executing the global network strategy, roadmap, and operating model in alignment with AES business priorities.
• Lead and develop a globally distributed team of network architects, engineers, analysts, and operations professionals.
• Establish technology standards, governance processes, and service delivery frameworks for network services worldwide.
• Develop multi-year modernization plans focused on resiliency, security, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, Digital leaders, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Architecture, and external partners.

Architecture & Engineering

• Own enterprise network architecture, standards, and engineering practices.
• Drive network modernization initiatives including SD-WAN, cloud networking, network segmentation, wireless technologies, and secure remote access.
• Ensure alignment of network platforms with cloud strategies across Azure, GCP, and other strategic platforms.
• Review and approve major network designs, technology selections, and engineering standards.
• Establish automation-first practices leveraging Infrastructure as Code and policy-driven network management.

Network Operations & Service Delivery

• Ensure 24x7 operational support for global network infrastructure and connectivity services.
• Define service level objectives and operational metrics to measure availability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
• Lead major incident management, problem management, capacity planning, and service improvement initiatives.
• Ensure operational readiness and successful transition of new services into production support.
• Drive operational excellence through process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement.

Security, Risk & Resilience

• Partner with Cybersecurity teams to define and implement network security controls and standards.
• Ensure compliance with corporate security policies, regulatory obligations, and audit requirements.
• Lead network disaster recovery, business continuity, resiliency, and crisis response preparedness.
• Identify and mitigate operational, technical, vendor, and security risks across the network landscape.

Financial & Vendor Management

• Develop and manage network operating and capital budgets.
• Lead strategic relationships with telecommunications providers, managed service providers, and technology vendors.
• Oversee contract negotiations, service reviews, performance management, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvements in vendor service quality, accountability, and value realization.
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining or improving service levels.

Portfolio & Program Leadership

• Sponsor and lead global network transformation initiatives.
• Establish roadmaps and business cases supporting modernization and technology investments.
• Provide executive communications, status reporting, risk management, and stakeholder engagement for strategic programs.
• Collaborate across Infrastructure and Digital organizations to support enterprise initiatives and acquisitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise network infrastructure, including leadership of architecture, engineering, and operations teams in a large, complex, global environment.
• Demonstrated success defining and executing global network strategies, roadmaps, operating models, and large-scale transformation programs.
• Deep knowledge of enterprise networking technologies and services, including WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, cloud networking, datacenter and campus connectivity, wireless, Internet, voice, network segmentation, and secure remote access.
• Strong understanding of network security, cybersecurity controls, regulatory compliance, disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience.
• Proven ability to lead globally distributed technical teams, develop talent, establish clear accountability, and foster collaboration across Architecture & Engineering and Operations.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing operating and capital budgets, business cases, cost optimization, telecommunications contracts, managed service providers, and strategic technology vendors.
• Expertise in service management, major incident and problem management, service-level objectives, performance metrics, capacity planning, and continuous improvement; ITIL certification or equivalent experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, translate complex technical topics into business outcomes, and communicate effectively with executive, technical, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience applying enterprise architecture, program management, and governance frameworks; relevant certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, PMP, or networking/cloud certifications are preferred.
• Ability to operate effectively across geographic, organizational, and cultural boundaries in a flexible global work environment.

The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus and long term compensation.
