Commercial HVAC/R Service TechnicianLocation / Territory: Ames, Iowa / Central Iowa; approximately 25-mile preferred residential radius for response coverage, with customer sites occasionally farther away. This role fits a technician who enjoys equipment variety, customer interaction and continued technical growth into areas such as refrigeration, boilers, controls or specialized scientific equipment.Diagnose commercial HVAC/R system problems methodically.Service and repair commercial rooftop equipment, including larger-tonnage systems.Perform planned and preventive maintenance.Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues.Communicate findings and recommended next steps to customers.Complete accurate digital service documentation.Track time, parts and follow-up requirements.Work independently across an assigned Central Iowa territory.Participate in the rotating on-call schedule.Maintain safe work practices and a professional customer presence.Support refrigeration, boiler/chiller or specialty work according to experience.Develop additional technical specialties through company-supported training.Meaningful commercial HVAC/R service experience.Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic fundamentals.Ability to independently service commercial HVAC equipment.Electrical troubleshooting competency.EPA Type II certification.Customer-facing communication ability.Valid driver's license and acceptable driving eligibility.Willingness to participate in the Service on-call rotation.Journey-level credentials.Refrigeration experience.Boiler and/or chiller experience.BAS/controls troubleshooting.Experience with multiple commercial equipment brands.Laboratory/scientific equipment exposure, including ultra-low or cryogenic refrigeration.Accurate diagnosis with low callback/rework rates.Independent handling of assigned commercial service calls.Clear customer communication.Complete, timely digital documentation.Safe, dependable execution.Continued expansion of technical capability.Broad commercial equipment exposure instead of repetitive residential work.Opportunity for overtime.Rotating on-call schedule currently described as roughly once every six weeks.Take-home company vehicle.Career paths into controls and specialty scientific-equipment service.Company-supported education and technical training.Experience-based PTO credit and strong field benefits.Home-daily territory with very limited overnight travel.MCI's website specifically highlights scientific-equipment work involving specialty refrigeration systems such as ultra-low freezers, freeze dryers, sterilizers, centrifuges and fume hoods, providing a distinctive technical-development path for interested HVAC technicians.
