About the Position

Job Title: Hospice Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Hospice Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 8hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 40 (0800 - 1700, Monday - Friday) Experience: Minimum 3 years Hospice experience (home or inpatient) License: RN License Certifications: BLS, Driver's License, personal vehicle, car insurance Must-Have: - 3 years minimum Hospice experience (home or inpatient) - BLS certification - Driver's License - Personal vehicle - Car insurance Description: Provide hospice homecare to patients. Will mostly be assigned a specific area. Current census for the department is 120-130. Average caseloads are 12-15 with typically 5 visits per day. Patient population consists largely of adults and mostly geriatrics. Common diagnoses include end-of-life CHF, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, neuro conditions (Alzheimer’s, dementia), and oncology patients. Critical thinking and strong assessment skills are required. Candidates should be autonomous and skilled in general wound care and Pleurx drains. Manage opioid and narcotic medication administration education. Will manage all aspects of the hospice experience. There are several standing orders, reducing the need to call a physician for every order. Home care aids work independently of the RN. A Triage RN is available to assist with unexpected needs and patient call-ins. Support includes charge nurses available via phone and admin on call daily. Comfort with EMR systems is preferred. Unit specific equipment includes Pleurx drains and occasional CADD pumps. Floating may occur, primarily to patient homes in the assigned territory. A set schedule is provided, with no weekend rotation or on-call requirements. Holiday expectations include covering assigned holiday hours as needed. Approval for time off requests goes through the manager. Teamwork and cohesiveness are central to the unit culture.
