Skin Fabrication Process Mechanic

Job Title

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

Location: Wichita, KS

The Company will provide appropriate job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions following: developing new and improved methods of production, multi-tasking and multi-machine operation.

1. Use hand equipment (e.g hand tools, power tools, air tools and computers) needed to complete/process work assignments
2. Perform any pickup, rework and incorporation of changes to the product as required
3. Work from prints, sketches, specification and written/verbal information
4. Maintain certifications, qualification, licenses or permits as required to perform work
5. Utilize precision measuring equipment (calipers, scales, etc) to perform self -inspection of in-process and finished work
6. Perform routine minor machine and Total Preventative maintenance as part of daily work duties (e.g replacing filters, bulbs and maintaining machine lubricant/coolant levels)
7. Routinely move product within manufacturing the immediate manufacturing work area and on occasion, move product to the next operation within a building
8. Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting team members of the same or lower classification
9. Ability to be cross-trained to inspect product and become SIA qualified

Other Responsibilities: Perform fabrication support activities including:

• Masking hardware for subsequent processing
• Loading/unloading/hanging hardware for chemical applications
• Deburr
• Hand finishing
• Light hand forming

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• Ability to be respirator certified.
• Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs.
• Ability to stand for 7+ hours per day.
• All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to identify material defects
• Experience with hand tools and power tools

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Pay: $21.39/hour, with potential to earn up to $35.50/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
