What the Role Entails

The Senior Technician, Operational Technology & Controls, supports CloudHQ’s building automation, controls, and operational technology environments across the data center portfolio. This role provides hands-on support for Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), OT network components, alarm monitoring workflows, and facilities telemetry used by operations teams.

This senior technical contributor role is suited for someone who has supported controls systems in live, mission-critical environments; understands the interaction between IT and OT systems; and can assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, change execution, vendor activities, documentation, and audit evidence collection. The role also supports CloudHQ’s internal AI and analytics initiatives by helping ensure facility telemetry is accurate, complete, and usable for predictive maintenance, fault diagnostics, and energy optimization.

What You Will Get to Do

Centralized Monitoring & Operations

• Monitor and support centralized facilities monitoring workflows for BMS and EPMS across campuses, including alarm review, triage, escalation support, event coordination, and communication with site operations teams.
• Support alarm management, trend analysis, and fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) by identifying recurring issues, validating alarm behavior, and recommending tuning opportunities.
• Maintain operational records and support reporting on alarm volumes, response activity, nuisance alarms, telemetry completeness, and system health indicators.

OT Architecture & Controls Integration

• Support the implementation and maintenance of building automation and controls standards for BAS/BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA concepts, and supporting OT network infrastructure.
• Perform and support controls integration activities across BACnet/IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, SNMP, MQTT, and OPC-UA in alignment with established standards.
• Assist with point-to-point verification, controls validation, device communication checks, and integration quality assurance for new construction, retrofits, and system changes

OT Cybersecurity & Compliance

• Support OT cybersecurity practices, including network segmentation, secure remote access, firewall rule coordination, asset visibility, and secure configuration of controls environments.
• Assist with ISO 27001 and SOC audit cycles by gathering system evidence, validating documentation, supporting data calls, and confirming controls-related records are complete and accurate.
• Follow and support documented change management processes for OT systems, including change preparation, implementation support, validation, rollback readiness, and post-change documentation.
• Ensure SIEM and network monitoring visibility into OT environments in partnership with the IT organization.

Commissioning & New Facility Turnover

• Support the controls scope during commissioning and turnover of new data center facilities, working with site operations, general contractors, commissioning agents, and controls vendors.
• Validate telemetry readiness at Day 1 of operations by confirming point mapping, naming standards, alarm configuration, communication status, and flow to the central monitoring platform.

Telemetry, Analytics & AI Enablement

• Support CloudHQ's internal AI and analytics team by helping validate clean, structured, real-time facility telemetry for advanced analytics, automated diagnostics, and energy optimization.
• Assist with evaluation, testing, and operational integration of smart building, analytics, monitoring, and CMMS-connected platforms under the direction of OT and IT leadership.

Vendor Coordination. Documentation, & Support

• Coordinate with controls vendors, systems integrators, site operations, and IT teams to support troubleshooting, maintenance windows, commissioning activities, and corrective actions.
• Review vendor work for technical completeness, support punch-list closure, document issues, and escalate schedule, quality, or operational concerns through the appropriate leadership path.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, system records, commissioning evidence, inventory references, and operational runbooks for supported OT and controls systems.

What You Bring to The Role

• 7+ years of hands-on experience supporting controls, operational technology, building automation, or information technology systems in mission-critical environments; data center experience strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting multi-site BMS, EPMS, DCIM, OT, or facilities monitoring environments, including alarm response, troubleshooting, documentation, and vendor coordination.
• Ability to support change execution, maintenance windows, commissioning activities, technical validation, and issue escalation in live operational facilities.
• Strong working knowledge of BAS/BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA concepts, and the protocols listed under Technical Knowledge.
• Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles, including segmentation, firewall coordination, secure remote access, SIEM or monitoring visibility, and secure change management practices.
• Experience supporting commissioning and turnover of new data center facilities.
• CompTIA Network+, Security+, GICSP, vendor technical certifications, or equivalent technical training preferred.

• HVAC and mechanical cooling systems; chilled water systems; CRAH and CRAC infrastructure
• UPS, generator, and power distribution systems
• Environmental monitoring systems

Operational Technology & IT/OT Convergence

• Alarm management, event correlation, trend analysis, and fault detection and diagnostics (FDD)
• Controls integration, point-to-point verification, and building system commissioning support
• OT cybersecurity principles: segmentation, NGFW, zero trust for legacy equipment
• SIEM, network management systems (NMS), and endpoint management tooling
• Cloud-hosted infrastructure supporting OT and data center IT assets (e.g., Microsoft Azure)
• ISO 27001 information security management systems and documented change management

Our Ideal Candidate Will Also Possess

• Supporting a centralized Operations Center, Command Center, NOC, or Facilities Monitoring Center.
• Monitoring BMS/EPMS systems across multiple sites or campuses.
• Alarm triage, escalation management, and event coordination at portfolio scale.
• Supporting systems integrators, controls vendors, commissioning agents, or site operations teams in mission-critical facilities; systems-integrator experience is highly valued.
• Supporting audit evidence collection, system documentation, and controls-related data requests in ISO 27001 or SOC environments.
• Supporting OT cybersecurity implementation activities, including firewall coordination, monitoring visibility, secure remote access, asset reviews, and remediation tracking.
• Cloud-connected smart building technologies and analytics platforms; operations management and CMMS platforms (e.g., Chekhub, IBM Maximo) and their integration with monitoring systems.
• Supporting commissioning and turnover of new data center facilities within hyperscale development environments.
• ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, and data center operational best practices.

Certifications

One or more of the following is strongly preferred:
