Hours: Day (7a–3:30p), Evening (3p–11:30p), Night (11p–7:30a) shifts available Days: Monday–Friday, rotating weekends Minimum Requirements: HT‑ASCP Certification Preferred Qualifications: Histology experience strongly preferred Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and one of the nation's top hospitals. You will work in a 24/7 laboratory that utilizes leading‑edge technology and advanced testing protocols. Role Purpose Responsible for providing a variety of routine, special, and/or complex tests and procedures on tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for histological examination to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis. This role performs a variety of complex and atypical assignments as well as standard work processes and procedures. Responsibilities Trained to perform tissue gross examination as needed (must meet High Complexity qualifications per CLIA 42CFR493) Perform light, frozen, and fluorescent microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation; perform immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent staining; perform and document quality controls; select tissue for control library and maintain inventory Assist with validation of new histochemical and immunohistochemical stains; process, microtomy and stain non‑decalcified bone for metabolic bone disease; process, microtomy and stain ophthalmic specimens and whole orbit pathology Embed, cut, and stain tissue from a variety of body sites; apply technical and critical thinking skills; knowledge of neuropathology, pediatrics, and subspecialized anatomic pathology Provide slides, tissue sections, and ribbons for research and clinical trial protocols; prepare slides for whole slide digital imaging during frozen section procedures Maintain safety‑sensitive position with constant alertness and safe practices Minimum Requirements Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Supervisor Experience: None Licenses & Certifications: HT‑ASCP or equivalent Preferred Requirements Education: Associate’s Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field Experience: 2–5 years Benefits and Legal Statement BJC Total Rewards provides comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, legal services, disability insurance, retirement contributions, 401(k), tuition assistance, learning & development, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, adoption assistance, and more.
